Its that time of year in Canada’s capital. Ottawa WINTERLUDE is on!!

So we took our annual trip down to the Rideau Canal Skateway, toured around the Winterlude grounds and took in the ice sculptures.

Ottawa Winterlude Ice SculptureThe set up is a little different this year than it was last year, or it may be that it is still a little early into the Winterlude festivites. There aren’t as many ice sculptures this year as there were last year, though they still may be in the creation. Can’t wait to see them when theyre done. Seeing the ice sculptures at the Ottawa winterlude at night is quite the experience. All lit up and shimmering in the light, it’d quite the show.

Here is a An ice sculpture picture in the works. I didn’t see where he is from but he’s making a Dragon. Dragon ice sculptures always seem to be a crowd favourite. You can’t tell from the photo but there’s quite a few people standing there watching him. (had to elbow my way in!!)

As always there’s quite a bit to do at winterlude .

Here’s the line up of the Ottawa Winterlude activities:

  1. The American express snow bowl
  2. Rideau Canal Skate way.
  3. Casino Lac Leamy Crystal Garden (home of the ice sculptures)
  4. Sun Life Snowflake Kingdom.
  5. Taste of Winterlude

Here’s a sample of this years concerts.

The official launch of Ottawa Winterlude features hip hop sensation K-OS. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see him. Though I hear hear he’s a good a performer. Didn’t K-OS play the blues fest as well?

I think K-OS likes Ottawa, he plays just about every event that there is in Ottawa.

One act I’m definitely going to go see this year though, is April Wine

Then after having done that we traipsed down to the Rideau Canal. The worlds Longest Skating rink!! Gotta love Ottawa for that.

the canal was just jam packed with people of all ages, families and everything in between. All out for who knows how long. The winter cold in Ottawa is usually sketchy at best around Winterlude. February has become quite the weird weather month over the past few years where it concerns Winterlude. A few years ago it was more or less rained out, I don’t think the Rideau Canal Skateway was opened until late into the month.

Hopefully this year the weather will hold up for winterlude.

Beaver Tails and Hot Chocolate On the Worlds Longest skating Rink.

Beaver Tail on the Rideau Canal SkatewayWell I’m just happy we made it down to the Canal for our annual skate and a Beaver Tail with Hot Chocolate. No trip to the Rideau canal would be compete without a beaver tail!!

The line up for the beaver tails wasn’t as Brutal as it was last year!! Thank god for that.

I had the Killaloe Sunrise Beaver Tail this year. I decided to change it up a bit, typically I have the Cinnamon and sugar Beaver Tail.
